  • More volunteers to help with clothing, food and administration
The 2010 Federal Poverty Threshold defines $17,374 as the threshold for poverty for a family of three. However, the Self-Sufficiency Standard shows that it takes $45,598 for a family of three (adult, preschooler, school-age child) to make ends meet in Champaign County.*

If you'd like to volunteer at Salt & Light, just fill out this basic form to get things started. There are no minimum volunteer hour requirements. Whether you can help for an hour or stay for the day, we'd love to have your help.

When it comes to volunteers,
there are three basic qualities we look for:

Character
People with high moral standards and a heart for serving others.

Competency
Individuals with gifts and abilities that work well in our ministry.

Chemistry
People who are team players.

In general, these are the things we need help with on a regular basis:

  • Sorting clothes
  • Hanging up clothes
  • Emptying collection bins
  • Assembling food bags
  • Light general cleaning
  • Administrative tasks (accounting, mailings, reception)
