Nathan is the Executive Director and one of the co-founders of Salt & Light. Nathan’s involvement with Salt & Light stemmed from a desire toward missions which ultimately led to God placing him in a mission field in his hometown. Nathan and his wife Jenny have four children: Ashton 13, Benjamin 9, Addy 6, and Lilly 4. Nathan is a sports enthusiast who loves to watch sports of all kinds especially college football and basketball. Nathan also loves to golf, run and stay busy attending all of his children’s activities.
Thad Sweet

Thad has been with Salt & Light since September 2004. Thad joined Salt & Light because he wanted to help meet people’s needs in a tangible way. Thad is the Operations Manager and is in charge of the volunteers and the daily operations of Salt & Light. Thad and his wife Emily have two children, Zoey 4 and Hadley 18 months. Thad loves God, his family, running, reading, writing, Michigan sports and the outdoors.
Scott Olthoff

Scott started with Salt & Light in February 2007. Scott joined Salt & Light because he wanted to help families get out of debt and live on a budget. Scott enjoys teaching people how to fish when it comes to their finances so that they can become financially responsible. Scott and his wife Susan have one daughter Meghan 9. Scott’s passions are spending time with his family, running and weather. Scott also serves as a part-time meteorologist at WILL AM/TV in Champaign.

John Prince – Board Chair
John Prince is the Board Chair and one of the founders of Salt and Light. He has lived in Champaign-Urbana for twenty years with his wife Jennifer and their two children, Jordan 18 and Jonathan 14. John is President of National Wound Care and is extremely honored that God has allowed him to be involved with Salt and Light. John loves prayer/devotion time with God, exercising, fishing, reading, and travel.
Mike Roberts – Board Member
Mike Roberts founded Salt & Light with John Prince in 2003. Mike helped create Salt & Light to assist in the process of meeting needs in the community. Mike is the associate pastor of the Dewey Evangelical Mennonite Church. Mike and his wife Heidi have two children, Ashley 24 and Cory 22. Mike enjoys sunny days outside, the beach, and helping out friends.
Vern Fein – Board Member
Vern Fein joined the board of Salt & Light three years ago. Vern was asked to join Salt & Light because he had worked with Nathan and Jenny Montgomery in organizing the annual Family Resource Day. Vern and his wife IIyse have been married for 35 years. When Vern and Illyse retire, they plan to travel, continue to do social justice outreach for the church, and spend plenty of time with their two grandsons. In addition to being a special education teacher for 34 years at Cunningham Children’s Home, Vern has worked for two different churches in the area as the outreach director for their social justice ministries, Salt & Light being one of those venues. Vern wants to continue to serve in social justice ministries after he retires from teaching. Vern loves sports, reading, and writing.
June Farchmin – Board Member
June has been on the board of Salt & Light for three years. June feels that serving at Salt & Light is the very heart of God – serving the poor. June is married to Walt, and they have three children: Reid 15, Grant 14, and Paige 11. June loves to run, vacation, go out to eat with family, go to basketball games, and she is a prayer warrior.
Melissa Sprouls – Board Member
Melissa has been with Salt & Light since its inception in 2003. Melissa has lived in Champaign with her husband Matt since 1995. Melissa works at National Wound Care as “John Prince’s assistant.” Melissa loves God and is so excited that He is transforming her life and is teaching her the Truth. The Truth that God loves us, we are not alone, He wants us to dream and be filled with wonder of who He is everyday. Melissa loves to laugh, (ha,ha,ha) sing, eat, and travel.
Laurie Ellsworth – Board Member
Laurie graduated from the University of Illinois and is a realtor with Coldwell Banker. Laurie got involved with Salt & Light because she has been on mission trips that were very meaningful, and she wanted to be part of a local mission’s ministry. Laurie and her husband Mike have three children: Evan 19 (freshman baseball player at Lakeland College); Allie 21, (senior at the University of Illinois in Tourism management); and David 28, (captain in the Army and a Blackhawk pilot). Laurie enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, and is a sports enthusiast.
