1.  How is Salt & Light funded?

Answer:  Salt & Light is funded through donations from individuals, churches, organizations, and businesses.

2.  What can I donate to Salt & Light?

Answer:  Salt & Light accepts clothing, furniture and household items in like new condition (subject to Salt & Light staff approval).

3.  When can I drop off clothing donations?

Answer:  Salt & Light has collection bins on the west side of the building that can be accessed at anytime.

4.  When can I drop off furniture donations?

Answer:  Thursdays 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

6.  How does Salt & Light get their food?

Answer:  The majority of the food Salt & Light distributes comes through the Eastern Illinois Food Bank.  Salt & Light prefers cash donations from the community in lieu of food donations.  Salt & Light can purchase significant quantities of food to feed a large amount of people. 

7.  How does Salt & Light get their clothing and other items?

Answer:  All of the clothing, furniture, appliances, and household items Salt & Light gives away come from donations within the community.

9.  Does Salt & Light offer any other services?

Answer:  Salt and Light offers financial counseling.  For information on Salt & Light financial counseling services please contact Scott Olthoff.

Salt & Light also offers a Worship Service on Wednesdays from 11:45 a.m. - 12:45 p.m.

11.  Where did the name “Salt & Light” come from?

Answer:  The name “Salt & Light” actually comes from the Bible. In Matthew 5:13-16 Jesus is teaching the disciples and says, “You are the salt of the earth.  But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again?  It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.  You are the light of the world.  A city on a hill cannot be hidden.  Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl.  Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.  In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”
