1. Q. How is Salt & Light funded?

A. Salt & Light is funded through donations from individuals, churches, organizations, and businesses. You can see some of our partners on the ‘Partners’ page.

2. Q. When can I drop off donations?

A. All donated items have specific drop-off times and days which are found on the ‘Donations’ page.

3. Q. How do I get to Salt & Light?

A. Can we link to Mapquest for driving directions, and drop the driving direction info? By Bus - To see the local MTD bus routes and schedules please visit www.cumtd.com.

4. Q. What do I have to do to volunteer?

A. Our Volunteer Manual and Volunteer Application can be found on the volunteer page. Any questions can be sent to our staff at volunteer@saltandlightministry.org.

6. Q. How does Salt & Light get their food and clothing?

A. The food Salt & Light distributes is both donated and purchased product the majority of which comes from the Eastern Illinois Food Bank. All of the clothing, furniture, appliances, and household items Salt & Light gives away come from donations from the community.

7. Q. Where did the name come from?

A. The name “Salt & Light” actually comes from the bible in Matthew 5:13-16 where Jesus is teaching the disciples and says, “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men. You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”
