First Light.

Salt & Light started the way most things do, as a small conversation among four local men who shared a passion for Christian ministry. And at the heart of that conversation was a very simple question. "How should we live out our faith?"

The four men were John Prince, Mike Roberts, Gregg Pennington and Nathan Montgomery. Together, they shared their stories, their insights and what it meant to live out the Christian faith. They talked about the importance of turning personal faith into community action and about areas of local need. And then they took their most important step — setting time aside to seek God's will before pressing forward with their plans.

A few weeks later they met again, with peace in their direction and a renewed commitment to create a ministry just as focused on faith as it was on providing food and other resources to families in need. In Matthew 5, they found their mission — to be the salt of the Earth and a light to the world. As the year drew to a close, Nathan accepted the group's invitation to serve as the new mission's first executive director. And with that, Salt & Light was born, handing food out to local families for the first time in January of 2004.
