"Where there is no vision, the people perish." Proverbs 29:18a
No mission is greater than the vision behind it. And at Salt & Light our vision has been shaped by a diverse group of and women who have lent their time, their energy and their voice to help those in need. We are extremely grateful to the following for their dedication and service on our board.
Some bring business experience to our board, others financial expertise. And then there are those who are simply driven by a burden to reach all they meet with the compassion of Jesus Christ. As the associate pastor of the Dewy Church, and a founding member of Salt & Light, Mike brings that to our ministry, providing the valuable insights that shape all our pastoral outreach efforts.
It takes a lot of love and patience to work with children who have special needs. And that's exactly what Vern provided, working with the Cunningham Children's home for the better part of 35 years. Since retiring, he's dedicated his time to helping many important causes. After co-chairing a successful annual event with Salt & Light, Vern was officially invited to join the board, where he continues to provide his insights and experience gleaned from more than 30 years of community service. In addition to serving on our board, Vern is a part-time outreach pastor at Vineyard Church.

Bible studies can be the starting point for a lot of great ideas. Some help build houses. Others help with food drives. Jane Bernthal's local group volunteered to help Salt & Light with Wednesday food distribution. And her interest grew from there. As a real estate broker with Coldwell Banker Honig-Bell, Jane is very active in the local community and uses her connections to draw attention to Salt & Light and assist with fundraising efforts. Like many volunteers, she feels blessed by the stories of the people she meets and enjoys praying with those in need. "At the end of the day," she adds. "I walk away with a joy in my heart that can only come from doing God's work."
As a commercial insurance broker and senior vice president of Wells Fargo Insurance Services, Doug Fields brings more than 30 years of business experience to the Salt & Light board. Like many in the local business world, he understands the incredible resources that our community has been blessed with. And he enjoys seeing those resources put to good use through the hard work of volunteers who are reaching those in need with the love of Christ.
A skilled fitness professional, and the executive director of the Refinery Health Club, Lindy Brown likes Salt & Light because she believes that it has the same mission that we should all carry as individuals to share the love of God by helping others. From her business development savvy to experience with similar, non-profit ministries, she brings a lot to the table. And it's all driven by a heart of compassion and a desire to make a difference.
