Did you Know?

In 2010, there were more than 8,000 children in poverty in our county.

The 2010 Federal Poverty Threshold defines $17,374 as the threshold for poverty for a family of three. However, the Self-Sufficiency Standard shows that it takes $45,598 for a family of three (adult, preschooler, school-age child) to make ends meet in Champaign County

Between 1999 and 2010, the number of people living in extreme poverty in Champaign County has increased nearly 60%.

This Little Light of Ours

Since 2004, we've been connecting families in need with the resources of a community that's been richly blessed. If you'd like to be part of our mission, get involved. And be a light in your world.

Our mission is simple - to share the love of God by helping those in need. Through our food pantry and clothing closet, we meet the immediate physical needs of families with limited financial resources. But our work doesn't end there. From financial counseling and education that teaches important budgeting concepts to voluntary worship services that feed the needs of the soul, we offer the salt and light that gives our community help and hope.

We all need a plan for our money. Financial Peace University (FPU) is that plan! It teaches God's ways of handling money. Through video teaching, class discussions and interactive small group activities, FPU presents biblical, practical steps to get from where you are to where you've dreamed you could be. This plan will show you how to get rid of debt, manage your money, spend and save wisely, and much more!

Can-less Food Drive | June 1- 30, 2013

What in the WORLD is a food drive without cans?

Well, for every $10 donated, SALT & LIGHT can buy about $100 in groceries from the Eastern Illinois Food Bank. So, instead of collecting cans of corn and beans, we need your financial support. This June Salt & Light collection cans will pop up at businesses all over Champaign County and it's YOUR chance to be part of the help that gives hope.

Did you know that our county has a poverty rate over 20%? The need is great. The only way we can continue to provide food for those in need (almost 400 families each week) is with your financial support and participation.

Be a part of the campaign! Just contact Lindy to inquire about serving as a host location for one of our cans. AND become a Campaign Partner to receive recognition on our website, social media & at our annual banquet in September.
